KYB KG54327 Gas-a-Just Monotube Shock Product Description:

  • A heavy gauge seamless cylinder to add strength and provide a high compression sealing surface
  • Application specific cylinder bore sizes
  • A precision multi stage hydraulic valve assembly operating in an aeration free fluid chamber
  • A separate Nitrogen gas high pressure chamber and floating piston
  • A Teflon coated or phenolic piston band that reduces friction and provides a positive cylinder seal

Product Description

The KYB Gas-a-Just monotube shock absorber has additional performance advantages over the twin-tube design: It can instantly, automatically adjust to more handling and control needs and never experiences performance fade due to aeration. The Gas-a-Just is available as an OE Monotube replacement and as an OE Twin-tube performance upgrade. The KYB Gas-a-Just has two separate working chambers: An air-free hydraulic piston and valve area for responsiveness and control and a second high-pressure Nitrogen gas area with a floating piston that provides a comfortable ride during normal driving and adds instant performance on demand. The monotube design provides the best combination when you sometimes need or want more than average or designed ride control performance and steering responsiveness. The KYB Gas-a-Just is a high pressure, Nitrogen gas-charged monotube design that includes every quality component that our global OEM products include.

5First rate shocks - why didn't I replace them sooner?
By Tim Bosworth
Just bought the KYB Gas-a-Justs for my 2003 Chevy Silverado 4WD. I'd purchased the truck used, with almost 100K on it, and the shocks had never been changed. What a difference it makes! The ride is much smoother and firmer, and I'm not bouncing around every time I hit a little pothole or uneven pavement.Word to the wise - out of the box, these shocks may be quite a bit shorter than the ones you're pulling off. Mine measured just over 1" shorter, in fact, and wouldn't even reach far enough to allow me to bolt them on. KYB's tech support line was friendly, but didn't quite understand the issue I was having. An internet search revealed the answer: the new shocks come with a "bump guard" that prevents them from fully extending unless the vehicle's springs are compressed. Since I had the car on jack stands and the wheels off, all I needed to do was jack up the lower control arm a bit, and it was enough for the KYB shock to reach and bolt on. Lowered the jack, slapped the wheels on, and the rest is history. KYB may want to think about including this in an FAQ section on their website, since my internet research indicated it is a common problem. All in all, very happy I purchased this product, and plan on sticking with KYB from now on!
