The Monroe Quick-Strut assemblies are simple to install and come with adequate install directions, although for my own comfort, I bought a used Haynes repair manual. Unless you are willing to pay a lot more for something exotic, buy the individual parts to make-up an assembly and do a lot more work requiring more specialized tools, Monroe, an old and respected aftermarket auto parts supplier, gives you all the pieces properly assembled at a "bundled price" you can't beat. For an older high mileage cars like mine, springs, seats, bumpers, and strut bearings are worn and fatigued (especially springs) and need replacement. Replacing all four struts, the sway-bar bushing and links has restored my old Camry to its new-car ride.You will need an assistant to help you lift the 25-pound assemblies into the fender wells and attach the top three nuts on the struts. Before installation, checking the top strut compression nut for proper torque is a good idea as suggested by another reviewer. Mine were fine out of the box. I used the old nuts, but think the new nuts supplied are probably ok. Torquing to specifications is mandatory and if done properly, locktite should not be necessary. I highly recommend the use of a click-type torque wrench over a beam variety and you will need one that torques above 200 ft lbs. My local O'Reilly Auto Parts loaned me this tool on my credit card and you may be able to find a parts store in your area that will do the same. Penetrating oil on the nuts and bolts, especially on the underside a day or so before you go to work is an excellent tip from another reviewer, particularly in climates where salt is used on the roads.After installation you will need a four-wheel alignment. Today this is a completely computerized laser-beam operation, so with the Camry's simple adjustment set-up I took the low bid (about $72). Check for discount coupons. If your car has been in an accident, you may need someone (a real mechanic) who knows how to deal with an "out of specifications" situation.Finally, if after all is said and done, you have a knocking sound from the back when you go over bumps, it's most likely the rear sway bar bushings and/or the sway-bar links. Disconnecting the sway-bar links and wire or tape them to the sway bar and drive the car. If the knocking sound is gone, then this is your problem. Replacement of bushing and links is four bolts, four nuts, and a small amount of vegetable oil (not petroleum grease) to lubricate the bushings.Tools: 12 mm, 14 mm. 19 mm. 22 mm sockets, ratchet, ½ inch breaker bar, extensions, hammer, punch, 200 ft lb ½ inch drive click-type torque wrench.

2Good Product, Poor Assembly

I installed two new quick struts in the rear of my camry, willing to pay the premium for the ease of instillation for having the entire strut preasembled for me. They went in fine, but when I took the car out for a test drive there was a terrible knocking from both sides. Not thinking for a second that it would be a problem with the struts, I removed the wheels again and checked to see if anything was tight.After a lot of wasted time I finally found a couple posts for other cars that had similar problems that came from Monroe not properly tightening the top strut nut to anywhere close to 60ft/lbs. After fighting my way to gain acess to the top nut I found that it must have just been put on finger tight.I would have given this product 4-5 stars if they had put it together right and not made a 1hour job take 5 hours. You pay essentially an extra $25-50 for them to compress the spring and tighten one bolt, which is apparently beyond them. Monroe should be embaressed with the quality of there assembly.

I'm an IT guy who has only done light projects like oil change/spark plugs. With the gracious help of a friend we did the back two in four hours. I can't believe with the tools we did this under 300$. I strongly recommend the ford escort forums if you have an escort and can see this taking a day with jack, jack stands and other tools. this saved me at least 400$. thank you amazon!

5Easy to install

I am no mechanic but this was easy to install on my 2000 Ford Escort. The front struts were particularly easy but the problem with the back was that it was just a bit harder to get to. Didn't not use any air compressed tools. Just a torque wrench and some muscle. Front and back fully installed by myself.

4Quick-Strut's the way to go.

The Monroe QuickStrut system is a great idea! Saves a lot of time and for the money, you can't beat the better quality ride you receive by replacing the springs at the same time you replace the struts. My only beef is the new springs are what I believe are "progessive rate" springs. The ride is "stiffer" and the spring coil is wound tighter at one end, whereas the original springs had equidistant spaces between the winds of coils, (if that makes any sense). Again, though, the ride is better and could take more of a load. Anyway, to buy all the seperate parts, you would end up spending more money! Do yourself a favor and buy a set!

5Great replacement strut

I installed a pair of these on my '92 Dodge Caravan. I'm pretty sure I was replacing the originals. The install was super easy. You might need a breaker bar to loosen the bolts at the bottom of the struts. Be careful putting the new strut in, I ripped a CV joint boot while wrestling the strut into place on the driver side. A piece of cardboard on the axle would have prevented that damage. Ride is much smoother with the new struts. I also ended up replacing the rear shocks and adding helper springs to the rear. Ride has greatly improved. I no longer bottom out.

5Monroe Quick-Strut gives new life to my 95 Grand Caravan

This strut assembly is complete and fully assembled. The springs are the stronger progressive wound type, not the week constant wound springs that came on the van. My van no longer bottoms out on bumps and dips. It's ride feels much more stable and solid on the freeway. Installing them was easier than I thought. There are 3 nuts on the tower and 2 large bolts on the base. You should also remove the sway bar brackets to allow the strut to drop down enough to pull it out of the tower. The bracket for the brake line was just like the original. The total job took me 2 hours from start to finish. The only down side was "Just Suspension" was slow to ship and the struts arrived outside the delivery window by 2 days.

Five of five stars! Perfect match and fit, easy install, did it in my driveway while getting my windshield replaced. Restored the ride back to new just like I had hoped. I was quoted $135 per strut plus the install and alignment which was 1,200 bucks (which wouldn't have come with new springs, mounts, isolators and boots). Got these fully assembled, brand new units for about $145 each with free shipping and I even found they apply to a $120 rebate from the manufacturer! All I have to do now is align it for $90 and I am under $600 for an all new suspension (after the rebate).

I needed these for a 1993 escort wagon. paid $800 for the car, so i could not justify paying what a shop wanted for shocks and struts. So i ordered front and rear quick struts from Monroe. it took me and a buddy about 4 hours to replaced all 4 assemblies on my car. Most of that time was getting the old rusted parts OFF of the car. lots of WD-40 and a crow bar! these are high performance parts, but will do the trick for any normal driving and at a more than reasonable cost.One good piece of advice is to wait until Monroe is having a buy 3 get one free sale. i didn't and 3 days after my purchase, they went on sale. So i could have saved even more!i will be buying Monroe again the next time i need to replace my suspension!

5An easy fix for your suspension problems

This assembly makes quick work out of an otherwise difficult job. No special tools are needed, just four nuts on the top and two bolts on the bottom. I don't know why anyone would tackle this job any other way.

5Great American made product!

I had purchased 2 of these for my wife's car,and couldn't believe the difference in the ride and the handling and stability! This is the way to go when replacing struts. Buy these loaded struts,so you know that everything is new. Do not just replace only the struts. Most mechanics would recommend the same. You are getting a quality product here,and the beauty of it is that it is American made.(Hard to find these days) I would recommend these to anybody,and would definitely buy them again,if need be.

Awesome service, great product. Shipping was excellent too. Haven't installed them yet (ordered all four) on my '96 Camry, but I expect them to perform as advertised. Take care to review other buyer's notes to make sure you get the proper sockets, penetrating oil, etc. Some great procedures are noted in those reviews also. Another handy item to have when doing this job is a nice quality floor jack. Got a very nice one at costco for $105 that I expect to use many, many times in the future.

4Stopped the clunking

I installed this complete strut with no problems, except the tab for the anti-sway bar link is shaped so that it more difficult to tighten certain non-OEM links.It's probably due to the single part number for both right and left side.I installed this unit in about 2 hours on the drivers side. The 3 top bolts lined-up fine. Getting the new strut into the wheel hub was a struggle, so be prepared.After the job was done, the noise went away and the car sounds great. Note that I had already replaced the lower ball joint and stabilizer bar link with no change in the noise, even though both had torn boots around the joints. I replaced the plastic OEM link (TRW) with a metal one, but the plastic one actually held up fine, even with torn boots and was easier to remove/install than the metal (cheap) one I have on the car now.This strut is worth the extra money, because you don't need a spring compressor and you save time and trouble with a complete unit. The individual cost of the basic strut, strut mount (bearing) and spring, would cost more than this easy to install strut assembly.

4Easy to install but ....

It arrived in a professional packaged box with detailed instruction for installation. It is easy to install and fits my 99 Taurus 24V DOHC very well except for one small hole. At the bottom of this strut, there are several holes and one of them is to fix break line using a screw. The hole is supposed to have threads inside so the the screw can be tightened up. But no threads at all in MONROE strut. So I could not use the original screw and have to find a smaller bolt and nut.

The strut worked fine and was easy to install since it was the complete strut assembly. Amazon had the lowest price not including the free shipping. They only had one in stock so I had to buy the other one locally for $30 more.
