Tiny Light, Big Impact
By taylor dixson
I bought the SB-R200 flash primarily for macro tabletop work, but I find I use it more far more often than I thought I would. It is so small and lightweight, it is always in my camera bag. It is great when you don't want to lug around an SB-900 but would still like to add some off camera flash. The Nikon CLS is pretty amazing, the little SB-R communicates wirelessly (through pre-flashes) and adjusts its power with TTL metering. Or you can go manual, all wirelessly from your camera. One note, this flash can not be mounted in a hot shoe. It is remote only! Nikon does make an adapter ring to mount this to the front of your lens (for macro work) They also make a kit (Nikon R1C1) that includes 2 SB-R 200's, the lens adapter and a commander unit (if your camera does not have a built in flash to control the remote units).

Nice short distance wireless flash.
By B. Cadotte
I have a Nikon R1 kit and wanted to add 2 more lights to the kit. They do not have alot of range, but are not made to be used as a big powerful flash either. They work very well with the onboard Nikon CLS (wireless) system. They do use CR123 batteries which will cost you a little bit. They do make them in a rechargeable now to help save on expenses.

Mt 3rd SB-200
By Ivanq
I have the Nikon R1 system and use it primarily on a Sigma 150 2.8 macro. The longer 1:1 distance of the Sigma was, in this case, detrimental to using the two SB-200s that I had - not enough power. So I bought a third SB-200 and so far it's really helped. I think the original configuration of two SB-200s of the R1 would probably work fine on a shorter macro such as the Nikon 85 mm because the 1:1 distance is much closer. I have the 85mm but haven't tried the R1 with it yet.
