Sharp, substantial, agile, and tough as an old boot, the Cold Steel SRK is a classic all-around utility and fighting knife. It'll open anything from M&Ms to oil drums, and it'll slice through mud flaps, radiator hoses, nylon webbing, sheet aluminum, or anything else you have without a second thought. For all the brute force it places at the user's disposal, its subtle clip point makes it much more than a sharpened prybar. In fact, I'd say it's quite a bit more elegant than most miltary-style knives from Ontario, KaBar, and the like.The rubbery, checked Kraton handle gives a secure grip under wet or greasy circumstances, and the single guard keeps your hand out of the blade. It's the perfect size for anyone who wants a real workhorse knife but doesn't want to haul out a huge 10" Bowie and be accused of overcompensating for some shortcoming. At 3/16", it's a bit thick for skinning and caping, but I imagine it's up to the task. I don't hunt, myself, and so I haven't tried it. It's excellent for any camp kitchen chore that doesn't specifically rule out the use of a thick blade.The sheath is Concealex (aka Kydex, a tough, flexible, impact and solvent-resistant plastic) and can be configured for all sorts of carry options. The knife locks positively into the sheath by means of friction between the sheath and the guard. I believe the sheath is "jump-rated," and while you may not be parachuting with it, if you take a tumble down a hill, then you'll be glad the knife stays where it's supposed to instead of finding a new home in your tender self.This knife can be had on the net for sixty bucks US or less. With Fallkniven offering a very similar piece for twice that, this is a bargain. The finish is nothing fancy, just baked-on black epoxy. With a nice hand-done finish and a brass guard and a luxurious handle material and a metal pommel, this would be a five-star production knife. But it would cost a lot more, and then I'd baby it. Which is completely against everything this knife stands for. This knife is for dragging through mud and thickets and pounding into trees and sheet metal without a moment's worry. Everyone should have at least one knife like this.

I've read many a reviews about knives from this specialist and that. I'm not a survivalist, military, or a fanatic. I'm a woman that just wanted to get a knife that fit into my hand comfortably, came with a sheath, and could stand the abuse of me doing jobs around the house. This thing has survived all sorts of stuff! I'm pretty handy around the house and I've been able to cut wiring, start cut drywall, open any packaging, carve plastic anything, chop wood (2 x 4), split small fire wood, mis-behaving appliance recombobulation.... Oh, and all my male friends are totally jealous! The thing is just a good looking knife. The handle has no molded grips so it fits into my little hand just fine (unlike most fixed blade knives that come with molded finger holds). This knife is light and I feel like I have control over it when I hold it. Finally, it comes with a handy plastic sheath that is easy to get the knife in and out of. And yes ladies, the thing *is* too big to fit into your purse!

This is a tough, no frills, camp/survival/combat knife. No hollow handled, compass hilted, saw backed Rambo BS here! If I was dumped in the middle of no-where with one tool, this is the one I'd want. The handle is incredibly comfortable and does not get slippery. The steel takes a wicked edge and holds it well. The sheath is very secure and can be carried on my belt or hung on my kit. I know nothing about fighting with a knife, so I can't commit on that capability beyond saying it balances well in my hand. It is thick and heavy enough to pull pry bar and chopping duty. The blade doesn't have much belly, so it won't be a great skinner, but you could get by. It ain't for delicate work, but, as with all knives, you can figure out how to make it do whatever you need to do.Be honest with yourself before you buy. Remember that this is a knife with a 6" blade. While I wouldn't consider it stupidly big, it isn't something you will carry if you don't really need it and the clerks will get really nervous if you wear it into the 7-11. I have a K-Bar Becker Necker which is much more subtle for daily use.
