This is my first O-gauge train set. I got it to play with my 2-year old son who loves trains. He is delighted with it. He is able to operate the controls with supervision (especially the whistle), but he cannot put the train on the track or hook up the cars. The sounds are realistic, but they can get annoying. Luckily you can adjust the volume or even completely turn them off. The cars are plastic with metal wheels and running gear. They look nice, but are not as realistic as some (probably much more expensive) I've seen. The engine is all metal, and is very heavy. The train had stood up to alot more abuse than it should get.
