The answering system rings your phone when someone is at the door. Very helpful when you are in the bathroom upstairs and someone knocks.Disadvantages: the ring is the same as a typical phone call. If you miss a call you have no way to tell if you missed a visitor.You can not initiate speaking to the intercom if someone knocks you cant talk to them unless they press the button.It lasted 5 years at my house. Parts had to be replaced when my house was hit with lightning.

I have installed these at two houses, and I am very happy to say that it works very well as a combo doorbell/door intercom. Simple to install over existing or new wire.The metal versions of the Doorbell Fon are much more attractive than their newer polymer models.
