5Everything I Expected
By R. Simmons
I have had the LuxPro PSP722E installed in my house since June 2010, and I am very pleased with it. Here are some of the things I like about it:** It has an excellent user manual. Every feature is described accurately (though succinctly), and the instructions are easy to follow. You can download the user manual from the Lux website: [...]** Entering a program is fairly easy, but the COPY function is what really makes it a snap. You just program a day, and then copy that day's program to any (or all) other days that have the same program. You can program the weekend separately, and you can program every day of the week separately if you wish.** The smart recovery feature allows the thermostat to anticipate an upcoming change in the night-to-morning or day-to-evening program and have your house at the new temperature when you get up in the morning or arrive home from work in the evening.** The heating/cooling usage for today and yesterday are recorded, so it is possible to keep a record of how much your system is on. Keeping such a record will allow you to see the effect of energy conservation measures you take.** It also records how much time the fan is on and will prompt you to change the filter when that time reaches a limit you specify.** Further, you can program the fan separately (if you want) to run during periods when the A/C or heat isn't being used enough to move air through your filter.** I like that the control of when the heating/cooling comes on is specified in terms of a temperature swing (with an additional swing for a 2nd stage) rather than in terms of the number of cycles per hour (which is what the well-known brand uses).** Although the thermostat comes from the factory with the display temperature calibrated, it disagreed (by about 1 degree) with a thermometer I hung next to it, so using the "calibration" feature, I could make the thermostat read the same thing as my thermometer.** The vacation hold feature lets you set the thermostat to a temperature outside your comfort range for a period of days when you will be away from your house. The day-count is decremented every 24 hours, and when it gets to zero, the thermostat resumes its normal program. Your house can be at a pleasant temperature when you return. Here are some things which could be improved:** The thermostat itself does not appear to be as high quality as you'd find in the more well-know brand. I had some trouble seating the front of the device to the back when I installed it, and I dread the time when I will have to change the batteries. Nothing has broken (yet), so I may be unduly pessimistic.** In spite of my praise of the user manual, one thing that was omitted was when the "vacation hold" actually starts. By trial and error I determined that the day count decrements every 24 hours at the time you set the hold (not at midnight, which is what I was told by a Lux support person).** It would be nice (though complicated) if you could set the start times for the four periods of the day differently for heating than for cooling. This is probably a minor inconvenience for people that live by the clock, but for us retired folks who rise and set with the sun, it means changing the morning start time several times during the year.Lux calls this their "Everything 'Stat", and that is not an unreasonable claim.

5Just About Everything
By MeteorMagnet
This is NOT the programmable thermostat you're used to. If you have a good idea of how your system works, this stat will do anything --- anything --- you might require. The BEST feature (to me) is the separately-controllable blower feature. Instead of waiting for heating/cooling demand, this unit can be programmed to trigger the blower unit for varying amounts of time through program periods that do NOT have to be the same as the demand periods.Sound complicated? It really isn't. If you have forced-air, it's nice to have the air moved around periodically, even if you don't need heating or AC. This assists in keeping the temperature even throughout the living spaces --- as well as improving filtration, a really important feature. This fan feature really shines in the summer, since air movement makes a slightly higher temperature more comfortable --- so the AC can be kept a couple of degrees higher. We have another "bonus" --- a very large, very cool finished basement. The blower cycling periodically helps to "scavenge" cool air from the lower region and move it through the house. The result is that the AC unit cycles far less, especially at night. (This is the main reason I purchased this thermostat.)Heating/cooling controls are precise and are fully-controllable, with quite a few available settings that you might want to read a bit about first. (The potentially critical settings are well-buried in the menu, and there is a lock-out feature that can be handy with inquisitive kids.)

3NICE BUT NO REMOTE INDOOR OR OUT DOOR SENSORS AVAIABLE
By BigAl
UNIT soon to be discontinuedOrdered the LuxPro PSP722E 1/15/11, it was shipped USPS and i got it within just about 3 days. Opened up the stat, and read the directions, I replaced a touch screen RightTemp programmable STAT I had installed last summer. The reason I purchased the LuxPro was that I have a heat pump with backup electric 10k strips. When I programmed the RightTemp to a 62deg night, and a 70deg 6am it would call the heat strips to turn on as there was more than a 2 deg difference between the call temp and the actual temp. The other problem I had was the location of the stat, it was located where the temp stayed about 3 deg. warmer than the living areas of the house, the LuxPro had the option of remote indoor and out door sensors, so I planned on adding 2 indoor sensors to ave the temp reading and one outdoor sensor to lock out the heat pump at outside temps below 35 so only the heat strips would run, I would not be wasting electric power running the heat pump when it was to cold for it to make heat.So I installed and programmed the LuxPro, everything seemed to work ok and I was satisfied with the device, so I proceeded to order the remote sensors for inside and out, could not find them anywhere, not even at LuxPro's site. I e-mailed LuxPro customer service and was returned a message quite quickly, it stated there were no remote sensors avail for the unit. I called LuxPro support back left another message for a call back and was called back within minutes. The tech support person told me that the manufacture had discontinued the remote temp sensors before the unit ever made it to market due to problems with them, then I ask if the PSP722E was still being made, he said yes but it was soon to be discontinued as they had new models on the way soon that would address these problems. I then ask how long the PSP722E has been on the market and was told at least 8 years. So this unit has been on the market for eight years and since day one the manufacture has known several of its features are in accessible as no remotes are available, continuing to sell it touting those features in its product descriptions, in its manual's and its sales promotions.....thats very weak. I ask the tech if they had a unit that I could have an outside sensor to lock out my heat pump below 35deg. he hesitated and said yes but he would not recommend it, I pressed him for more info and he told me it was the touch screen PSPU732T, I ask why he did not recommend it and he told me that it was very difficult to program and it had no reset features to reset the programming or hardware. I really appreciate his candor, such honesty about current products from tech support is very welcome in place of those who try and indicate the consumer is doing some thing wrong, or sending us on a wild goose chases ( Unplug the unit, let it sit for 20 min, plug it back in ) you know the run around we get. Unfortunately LuxPro marketing dept. just dose not seem to care and continues to market hobbled merchandise. I feel bad about returning it to the distributor, but hey they and Amazon sold me on it with the descriptions they published on their sites.
