4Well worth the money...
By Steve Renfrow
This DCC controller is well worth the money I spent on it. The features are easy to use and easy to understand. Instructions are written on the back of the unit. I am using it with a Bachmann DCC train set. It does not run the loco's as well at the lower speeds as does the Bachmann controller that came with the set. I measured the voltage on the rails and found out it is the Bachmann controller that runs a voltage above standard so I can't knock MRC for this problem. I also have several Bachmann DCC controlled turnouts. The MRC Prodigy Express will not program these turnouts but it will work fine with them after they have been programed with the Bachmann conroller.I do have a complaint about the way the throttle works, when you twist the throttle to increase speed it likes to jump to full in about a quarter of a turn. To get control over the throttle at you must turn the knob VERY slow to get it to move up in single steps. I don't think my controller has a problem, I believe it is programed this way. If not for this problem I would give it a five star rating.

5Works as advertised
By Texas David 7
I have given this a 5 star review but I do have one bone of contention and it may just be that I don't fully understand how to use this product. I have to keep turning off the power to clear the mode that I am in in order to do something else. If I have just programed an engine, I can't seem to find out how to get out of the programing mode without turning off the power. Probably me and not the unit. I've owned MRC DCC equipment since they started manufacturing them and have nothing but praise for this company. The Prodigy Express works just as advertised. I like it and I promote it. If you have a large layout, you may want to explore more high end options that MRC offers as well as what other manufactures such as MTH may offer as this is a starter unit and has limitations. I did read many reviews about this product before I ordered it and will address one complaint and that was a touchy speed control. If you match the speed steps of the Prodigy controller to the speed steps of your DCC Decoder [as instructed in the operation manual] you should have no problem with a touchy speed control. This is a good product from a good company. Hope you enjoy the hobby!

4Takes a little experimenting
By Charles Beckers
The instructions that come with the controller seem to assume you already have some experience with DCC, even though this is essentially an entry-level device. You need to be willing to do a little experimenting with your actual DCC equipment to get everything to play together nicely.
