If you are taking go seriously and want a high quality board, this is the way to go.agathis wood may not be quite as durable with kaya, but Ive had no problem with any chipping or denting. and I play as much as I possibly can.The stones never seem to get dirty, to my surprise. as opposed to my marble stones which I need to wash every week atleast.The bowls are good as well though Im not sure how to stress how good bowls can be.the point is, GET THIS BOARD! its the best one Ive ever owned.

Just received my board, and while I am happy with the purchase there are two things I noticed which I feel impact the value of the board. The board does not have a "heso" or the pyramidal cavity at the bottom of the board. This should not be an issue because the board is not really thick enough to require one for drying purposes, but could impact the sound quality. Also the manufacturer has chosen to apply a rather opaque finish to the playing surface which significantly mutes the grain of the wood. It is common with Korean and Japanese made goban to allow the natural grain to show on the playing surface.That said, you aren't going to find anything else this pretty in the U.S. at this price unless you snag it on a business trip to Japan ;)

I bought this Go board 9 months ago. I am so happy that I did. The wood is beautiful, it has a beautiful color and shows the wood grain. The bowls are gorgeous and the stones are very thick and satisfying to play with. It took me a little while to get accustomed to the thickness of the stones, but now I enjoy them more than the flatter ones.It is true that it doesn't have a heso, but having this thickness it really doesn't need it (it's usual to have a heso in thicker boards). The sound is very pleasing and the legs are gorgeous. It is a very satisfying experience to play in this board.About the seller: The item was shipped fast and it arrived in good condition. I was very concerned about having this board in the dryness of Arizona, so I contacted the seller and they replied next day answering my questions. He basically say that the wood comes pre-warped and pre-dried so it doesn't crack. He also said that letting it be in a moist place once in a while will be good for the board in the long run.I am VERY pleased with this purchase. I searched a lot, but couldn't find anything like this for this price. I highly recommend it.
