Product Description

“Classic.” The term implies agelessness, perfection and tradition. In the 1980s police officers petitioned Spyderco for a sizeable folder with a stainless handle and an acutely tapered blade. The folder is designed around a four-inch blade and proportionate handle, designed for flat and flush carry on a duty belt, pocket or waistband. With the exception of blade steel upgrades it has remained viturally unchanged for thirty-plus years – a top-ten seller to old-school LEOs and rookies alike. The Police Model has a David Boye dent cut out of the locking lever allowing you to gorilla grip the knife without accidentally releasing the lock. The blade is hollow-ground VG-10 and thick at the tip for added strength with a weight-reducing swedge along the spine. All stainless, the handle is perfect for engraving or embossing. Steel clip positions the knife for tip-down pocket carry.

5Still my favorite knife after 10 years of carry
By Comqter
This knife was given as a gift to me over 10 years ago. I've owned two other spyderco knives, a clipit delica and another I can't name. This is my favorite knife, and I've carried it for many years. The serrated blade is very effective. I've used the knife for everything from opening cans of pineapple juice to opening envelopes. I've cut myself probably 25 times, a few years ago badly, removing about 1" square of skin from my index finger cutting a branch, in one quick slicing move. I was fortunate that it didn't require stitches (although there is scar tissue). I wouldn't hesitate to use it to defend my life against anything I should come across in the woods, as I would feel confident that the amount of cutting force that I can deliver with this as an extension of my arm would rival anything with claws. The clip is better than the other Spyderco knives I've owned, a simple bent metal affair that doesn't snag on my pocket and won't break. The action on the knife may be my favorite part. It opens and closes so smoothly, depressing the locking mechanism on the back allows the blade to swing back and forth like a pendulum. When it locks open, there is only the tiniest amount of play side-to-side, probably only now after so many years of use.I've had the serrated blade sharpened many times on a standard bench, sharpening the back side of the blade is quite effective although the "pits" of the serrations don't get sharpened as well from this. This blade stays sharper longer than any other knife I've owned, which has greatly helped in it's longevity. The knife is visually intimidating, and if it weren't so darned effective I wouldn't carry it because of this. It's just small enough to be legal in my state. The weight, feel, and action of this knife inspire confidence in it to this day. I've loved knives since I was 5 years old, and have bought dozens of them, but I don't think I've bought more than a few as trinkets since owning this one. There may be better knives out there, maybe even for less money. But I won't find out because I've got this one.

5Supurb Knife

I have had one of these knives since I started my police career over 30 years ago. I just retired my old one and bought this new model. It is supreme and I love it and carry it every day in my job as a law enforcement officer.

5Spyderco Police: Best I've Found
By hugadog
I've owned a Spyderco Police model for well over twenty years. I was a career firefighter in Massachusetts and progressed through the ranks. I recently retired as Chief and throughout my career, I always carried this knife. I specifically chose the fully serrated edge. It is very thin, so I wore it inside my waistband. It is very well made. It holds a sharp edge through hard use, and I've never had a problem with corrosion or the locking mechanism. I've heard criticism about the handle becoming slippery during use, but it has never been an issue for me. I've established a good hand hold whenever I needed to use the knife. One additional advantage to this blade that I've always appreciated is the fact that, if required in extreme situations, it can cut wire. I've done it. It is not good for the blade, nor do I recommend the practice, but as a Firefighter, I've always been concerned about avoiding entaglement in overhead wires. This can occur when pulling ceilings or overhead collapses. An insulated wirecutter is obviously best, but having a knife that can also help out was always a comfort for me. I worked in a very tough city, and another advantage to carrying this knife is that I always felt that I had something substantial within my grasp that I could defend myself with in close quarters. I recently lost the one that I carried most of the time, but I had a back up to replace it. I just purchased another serrated Police model as my new backup just in case! In my opinion, this is a great choice for everyday carry inside the waist or in the pocket. The fact is, once you have one, you will not want to be without it!
