a pretty good basic external hard drive

It's a pretty decent external hard drive. USB 2.0 connection seems a little slow when transferring large files, and the drive won't turn off unless it's physically unplugged from the host computer. Other than that, it's very reliable, and a pretty good bargain for the storage capacity.

Get This Hard Drive!

This is a very good hard drive. It is whisper quiet. I have never had a single problem. I disagree with the other review who said you couldn't turn this hard drive off. You push in on the power button and hold it a couple of seconds and it goes off. You will not be dissapointed with this Hard Drive!!

Finally, a USB/firewire card that works in a Dell server

I'm in the unhappy situation of running Windows XP Pro on a Dell server, for which Dell won't support Windows XP, only Windows Server 2003. They've apparently got this mentality that if a computer can mount in a rack, there's no way anybody is going to use it for a workstation.Previously I found and tried to use a card from Sonnet that the Dell server was apparently murdering. I've got one of those Sonnet cards in a Dell home/small business tower and it is doing just fine, but the same card would work for only a few days in the server and then die forever.The Belkin F5U602 works; for all I know, it might be the only Firewire and USB card in the world that doesn't let the magic smoke out when installed in a PE2950. I'm streaming up to 25GB a day onto a FW800 LaCie RAID1 with it. (Not that that's 'fast,' but it's been rock solid for months.)

It's okay, I guess

I bought this because I had a firewire CF card reader and wanted the fastest download speeds possible for photos. This doesn't seem any faster than USB 2.0. And it sure cost a lot more.
